Space to find your way.
If you’ve been holding things together for a long time and life feels heavier or overwhelming, counselling may help. You might be feeling stuck, low in confidence, anxious, or unsure where to turn next.
You don’t need to be in crisis to begin counselling. Sometimes, it’s just about finding a safe, steady place to pause, breathe, and start working things out.
That can start here. I’m Jo Topley, an Integrative Counsellor based in Romsey, offering private counselling for adults across Hampshire and online.
I became a counsellor because I’ve experienced and seen how many people are struggling to carry life on their own. Especially those who are holding families together, managing complex situations, or have been through things that others don’t fully understand. Sometimes, we just need a space where we can stop pretending everything’s fine and be heard, fully and safely.
I’m an integrative counsellor, which means we'lI look at different ways that suit how you think, feel, and process, to help you move forward. The work is gentle but honest. I’ll support you and challenge you kindly to explore what matters most and what might help.
As an adoptive mum of three for the past 20 years, a busy working parent, and someone who has navigated international moves, I understand how life’s layers can build up. Family, work, past experiences; sometimes it feels like you’re trying to carry too much. That’s why I’m passionate about creating a space where you can put some of it down for a while.
Clients often describe me as calm, approachable, and safe. My job isn’t to fix you, it’s to create the space where you can begin to understand yourself.

Working with me gives you:
A safe, steady space to talk things through without judgement
Time to make sense of what’s going on and what’s feeling too much
Support to understand yourself better and explore new ways of coping
A confidential place to pause, reflect, and breathe, away from daily pressures
Some people come to counselling for a short time to get back on track. Others stay longer to work through deeper patterns. There’s no right or wrong way. We’ll find the pace that’s right for you.
Gentle conversation to explore what’s going on for you
Tools from CBT or person-centred therapy to make sense of thoughts, feelings, and behaviours
Reflective space to help you decide what’s next—if anything
Creative work (if that feels right) to help express what’s hard to put into words
I work with adults of all ages who are experiencing:
You don’t need a specific diagnosis or crisis to come to counselling. If something feels off — that’s enough.
I offer one-to-one counselling sessions in a calm, comfortable room in Romsey, or online if that suits you better. We’ll work together at your pace, using ways that suit how you think, feel, and process. That might include:
Gentle Conversation
A calm, open space to talk through what’s on your mind without pressure or judgement.
Reflective questions
Thoughtful prompts that gently guide you to insight, clarity, & choices that feel right for you.
Techniques from CBT
Practical tools alongside deep listening to help you understand thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.
Creative Work (if helpful)
Using drawing, objects, or metaphor to explore feelings when words are hard to find.
You decide the pace. You bring whatever’s on your mind. And we take it from there.
It’s a gentle start. I’ll ask a few questions to get to know you, find out what’s brought you here, and understand how you’d like to work together. There’s no pressure to dive into anything before you’re ready.
Yes, what you share in sessions stays between us — with a few legal exceptions which I’ll explain clearly at the start.
Not at all. Many clients come with a general sense of feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure of themselves. If you’re struggling, or just want things to feel easier — you’re in the right place.
Some people come for a few weeks, others for longer. We’ll review things together and make sure the work continues to meet your needs.
Not at this time — I work one-to-one with individual adults.
